Forget the Euro…

Following disappointing 1st-quarter results, our shareholders felt that Stodge.org was in danger of loosing it’s brand-equity. From our peak of several thousand readers per day (in the late nineties), the Stodge blog was floundering – barely attracting a hundred readers per day. Something had to be done. We commissioned a leading market research company to investigate [...]

Club to Honour Electrocuted Youth Star

Falkirk Football Club are to honour Craig Gowans who was electrocuted in a freak accident on their training pitch eallier this month. Craig was carrying a pole which struck overhead cables at the club's Grangemouth training ground. The 17 year-olds strip is to be placed above the clubs tunnel as a tribute. Falkirk's first away game of their first SPL season is on the 6 August and sees them coming

Head up the arse syndrome

Because of the 'events' on London's tube on Thursday and Friday, this press release issued by Transport for London last Wednesday went largely unnoticed. As London's transport network continues to return to normal, the system is still suffering large numbers of security alerts due to passengers leaving bags unattended. London Underground staff are dealing with a staggering 250 unattended bags a

Make Byers History

In light of Stephen Byers utter contempt for Parliament and Parliament's subsequent failure to do anything about it, I have launched the "Make Byers History" campaign*, with the aim of getting Mr Byers expelled from Parliament (or at least told off). The drive even comes with a pretty banner, look: If you wish to upload the banner to your site, it can be found at

Engagement

In the Observer today, Nick Cohen is absolutely right to focus on some of the underlying causes of the terrorism facing us in London and elsewhere. He outlines the reasons why Ministers need to be more open with the British public on this issue: No one knows precisely what is going on in the heads of the successful and failed suicide bombers who have attacked London over the past fortnight. We won't know until we can explore their poisoned minds. What is absolutely certain is that no one, cabinet ministers included, can be absolutely certain that Iraq has nothing ...

Consequences

The consequences of 7/7, as it is being called, and the abortive attempts to follow-up those horrendous attacks with others a week later, continue to reverberate. As the Observer reports today, fears of an anti-Muslim backlash have been realised in a 500-per-cent rise in faith-hate crimes in the past two weeks.More than 1,000 race and faith hate incidents have been reported to police across the country since the London bombings, though community leaders believe the actual number of incidents is at least four times higher. Most of the reported crimes are 'low-level' attacks such as graffiti and verbal abuse. However, ...

Kishwer Falkner - Another taskforce will solve nothing

An interesting article in today's Sunday Telegraph written by Kishwer Falkner(Liberal Democrat peer - Baroness Falkner of Margravine). What is needed now is not a quick-fix taskforceWith July 7 still fresh in our minds, we needed little reminding on Thursday of where we have just been. The repeated near-horror of indiscriminate killing by those among our own is almost too much to bear...When I took the call on Monday inviting me to a Downing Street summit on Tuesday morning, I was not entirely surprised. News of the meeting had been in the media for some days. The attendance list was ...

Research Website

I am thinking of establishing a research website to complement this blog. I could do this via my London office webservers. Alternatively it might be worth using some of the various services on the web (all of which are relatively sensibly priced). This would enable the various people I am working with to also maintain sections of the site. We could have elements dealing with all the different

Heather Quinton in Heather and Quinton

Yesterday me and Heather went on one of our drives. We headed down the A1, and turned off towards Melton Mowbray. Looking at the map Heather realised that we weren't too far away from Heather, it's somewhere we've mentioned before and said we would visit. Upon arriving in Heather, we discovered that it was their Scarecrow Festival, so we had a wander around looking at the local efforts. Having

Terrorist Attacks

Whilst the bombings in London haven't really had an effect on me, the bombings in Egypt have. The attacks on London for myself have always been coming, and after Madrid, attacks on the Underground were most likely. I'm not sure if it's because I'm no longer working and travelling in London, however both my Dad and my Mum's boyfriend are in the area (my Dad was at UCL on Wednesday, Simon was on the

Regrets

Regret - another emotion to add to those swirling around the streets of London like a 19th century pea-souper. This for the young Brazilian man who it turns out was shot by the Police at Stockwell. I said to a friend when the news of the shooting first arrived that I hoped it was not [...]
