A new transport scheme that has been designed by the community it serves is due to take to the road on 18 March 2013. The Cambridgeshire Future Transport 7a service will link Hinxton, Heathfield, and Whittlesford with Sawston and, for the first time, the Park and Ride at Babraham. News that the government is likely to drop plans for a minimum unit price is a welcome move - despite the predictable outcry from the medicine industry. There is little evidence that problem drinkers would be put off - and the only benficiaries would be the supermarkets whose profit margins would rise. As Philip Johnson says in the Telegraph "Britain's problem with alcohol is less a function of price than of culture". And minimum pricing does nothing to fix that.

As you may have seen this morning the Prime Minister has decided to call off the cross-party talks on implementing the Leveson proposals on press regulation. Throughout the talks I have sought to defend a free press while making sure ordinary people can be protected from unwarranted harassment and bullying by powerful interests in the press. Construction workers building tunnels for Crossrail beneath the City of London have unearthed a medieval plague pit. And it seems that the dead bodies are piling up: While the fast-train project promised to relieve congestion in the capital, work on Crossrail has now turned up so many bodies that archaeologists at the Museum of London admit that storage is becoming a problem.Fortunately, there is little danger of bubonic plague breaking out again. A pet interest for me is how much is being discovered about bacteria useful to the well being of us humans. We've all heard about good gut bacteria. Research just out shows that skin can have a balance of good or harmful bacteria. Good skin bacteria can ensure acne isn't present. A team from California University has analysed skin of people with and without acne. Of the 66 commonest strains of bacteria found – 2 seemed linked to acne and 1 to clear skin. Eluned Parrott, Welsh Liberal Democrat Shadow Business Minister, has accused the Welsh Labour Government of being bankrupt of ideas on the economy, after it was revealed that exports from Wales fell by more than £1.3billion last year. Statistics released yesterday have shown that Welsh exports have fallen 10.2% over the last quarter, which is the largest fall in exports in the UK. The value of exports for Wales for the whole of 2012 fell by £1,373,000,000 compared with 2011. Carwyn Jones has a reputation as a First Minister who does not like making difficult decisions. His bloodless reshuffle yesterday evening lived up to that expectation. As everybody had speculated, Lesley Griffiths was replaced by Professor Mark Drakeford AM, but she remained in the cabinet, in charge of local government and government business.
