Embed from Getty Images Like Caron in Scotland I will be trying to track results, this time for the National Assembly of Wales. I have to admit that here at Lib Dem Voice we are at a bit of a disadvantage because none of us lives in Wales nor are we fully conversant with all the issues (although I can sing Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau rather better than John Redwood, having learnt Welsh for a couple of years at primary school). So be gentle with us, and help us out. We would very much welcome input from readers in beautiful ...

My guess is a fair few journalists/pundits will get this wrong. So in the interests of accuracy here's the list since 1983 – which is longer than I think many will report: When local elections on their own 1992 (Labour in opposition; local elections held several weeks after general election) 1985 (Labour in opposition) When local and general elections on the same day 2015 (Labour in opposition) 2010 (Conservatives in opposition*) 1987 (Labour in opposition) * When voting took place.

[IMG: IMG_2856] Well done and thank you to everyone who has done anything for the Liberal Democrats in our campaigns culminating today. What a glorious day it was here in the south of England! – and apologies if the weather in your area wasn't as great. My straw hat got its first outing of the year and, as I tramped round the streets of Newbury, I couldn't believe how lucky we were to have such glorious sunshine and warmth. * Paul Walter is a Liberal Democrat activist in Newbury and West Berkshire. He is part of the Liberal Democrat Voice ...

This thread will be updated as often as I can during the night. I will be at the count in Edinburgh hoping to see a gain in either Edinburgh Western or the Lothians list. The party is cautiously optimistic that it can grow from its 2011 nadir of 11 seats – but only by 1 or 2 seats. We have had a brilliant campaign and we can be very proud of Willie for the way he's conducted himself. We've found that people are ready to listen to us and trust us again, but the rebuild is a long-term project. Willie ...

For a good few years Barnet Council had rather a reputation for unusual interpretations of election law, with Liberal Democrat agents or campaign managers expecting to have to quote legislation at the council in the hope of getting it to follow the same rules as other London boroughs. Such history was brought to mind again today by Barnet's spectacular failure in the London elections – failing to provide accurate lists of voters for the staff to use at polling stations: Barnet Council has apologised to anyone who was unable to vote because their name was missing from the poll list. ...

I reported in an earlier entry that it was Hamlet, but on reflection that was wrong; it was a school production of A Midsummer Night's Dream in 1979 when I was 12. My friend Padraig played the little Indian boy, in blackface. Those were different times. The 30 days: Day #1: Your favourite play Day #2: Your favourite character Day #3: Your favourite hero Day #4: Your favourite heroine Day #5: Your favourite villain Day #6: Your favourite villainess Day #7: Your favourite clown Day #8: Your favourite comedy Day #9: Your favourite tragedy Day #10: Your favourite history Day ...

Look, you know and I know that I want you all to go out and vote Lib Dem, despite (or maybe even because of) any misgivings you might have. But I also know some of you don't want to do that. I equally know that there are a lot of you who are of the "You're all a bunch of bastards; I wouldn't trust any of you; a pox on all your houses" stripe, and that sometimes people who think that way don't vote. If you're of that mindset, please please please go and spoil your ballot. I have two ...

Second paragraph of third page (which is about a Heavy Metal Power Building): Some of the metals they use can be found in the ground, but only in a few places. Other kinds can be made by people - but only with the help of a power building that's already running. About three years ago, Munroe (or possibly his fans) originated a meme where you had to describe your job using only the thousand most common words in English. I had a go; since then I've changed jobs, and now I would simply say that: People pay me to tell ...

Earlier today, I advised of the changes to bus routes for Xplore Dundee services when the roadworks on part of Perth Road start next Monday. However, the poster did not include details of the services tendered by the City Council (the 203, 204 and 204a). Xplore Dundee now advises the following with the 204/204a services : Service 204 (to the City Centre)Normal route to Corso Street, then left into Blackness Avenue, Sinderins junction, left into Perth Road and then normal route from Nethergate. Service 204a (to the City Centre)Normal route to Newhall Gardens and Perth Road, then left into Glamis ...

Just over a week ago I decided I would plump for the two month's free trial. Two months is loads of time to evaluate it, right? And free is my favourite price. OK, so you have to put your card details in so they can charge you after the 2 months is up, but that's normal... And I do genuinely believe that quality journalism is worth paying for, so I would have happily spudded up my £12.99 a month after my free trial if I thought that the content was worth it and I got on OK with the app. ...

News reaches LDV that Catherine Bearder has won the Green Ribbon Political Award recognising her outstanding environmental achievements. Catherine was awarded in the "MEP of the Year" category for her work fighting for stronger European targets to tackle air pollution. The judges commended Catherine for generating public awareness of the issue and championing EU action to improve air quality, often in the face of opposition from the UK government. Catherine is currently a lead negotiator on the EU's 2030 air pollution limits and has helped ensure that the European Parliament prioritises improving air quality ahead of the vested interests of ...

Many Lib Dems will remember Junior Doctor Saleyha Ahsan's rousing conference rally speech (37:45) in York, in which she joined the party 'live on air' and blasted Hunt for his attacks on our NHS. Of course, you may also recognise her from her work on the BBC's 'Trust Me I'm A Doctor' or know her from the 2013 BBC documentary 'Saving Syria's Children' in which, while working in Atareb Hospital in northern Syria she was required to help treat the dozens of casualties brought in from one of the Assad regime's thermal bombings of a nearby school. It was this ...

We saw the third set of plans for redevelopment of the former council offices at Stone House yesterday. They bear no relationship to the previous schemes (15/05509/FUL). The plans were revealed at the conservation committee and shortly afterwards, as the town council. I had an opportunity to discuss the scheme with the developers earlier. For... Further to my recent update about the temporary closure of Perth Road between the Sinderins junction and West Park Road from Monday (9th May) for road resurfacing work, Xplore Dundee has kindly given me the following information about temporary bus diversions. The poster below covers Xplore Dundee services, but similar diversions apply to Stagecoach 16 and 77 services too :

I'm getting bored of this myself. Seriously, I am. By this stage, I'm really only cataloguing everything so that one day the centre-left can rebuild – think of these article as breadcrumbs back to sanity then – or failing that, as a document to where the Left finally killed itself in Britain for all time. Anyhow, another day, another reason to be disappointed in Jeremy Corbyn. Even though I was never really a fan in the first place. The setting? The House of Commons. The occasion? Weekly PMQs. I know, I know, questions to the prime minister of a Wednesday ...

It's polling day...

[IMG: clocktower] After all these weeks of campaigning, I can give you news of one confirmed loss from this election campaign – several pounds of weight from me. The election diet plan has had a very positive effect on me over the past few weeks, and there's definitely less of me than there was in March. That's what happens when you spend lots of time either out knocking on doors or delivering leaflets, especially in a ward where it's much easier to get about on foot or on a bike than it is by car. I've knocked on over a ...

Good luck today!

[IMG: lib dem rosettes] Everyone in the UK has at least one election today. Scotland, Wales, London and Northern Ireland are elected their devolved legislatures, and a mayor in London. Large parts of England, particularly unitary authorities have local elections. England & Wales are electing Police & Crime Commissioners. Liberal Democrat campaigners have been working hard for all these elections. A year ago, some people said the party was finished. There is still a long way to go to build the Liberal Democrat party that Britain needs today. But in the last 12 months our candidates and campaigners have shown ...
