St Peter's, Church Langton, has problems. It has no parish priest - it's "in an interregnum" a notice in the church charmingly puts it - though regular services continue. And it has been hit by the widespread lead thefts from church roofs in the region. When I went inside there was a bundles up carpet that had obviously fallen victim to a leak. The Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee has released a report today saying that the "most vulnerable tenants need greater legal protections from retaliatory evictions, rent increases and harassment so they are fully empowered to pursue complaints about repairs and maintenance in their homes." I discovered on Saturday morning that Peter Angus, former Lib Dem Councillor in Castle Morpeth, had died. Peter was a friend of mine who provided me and David with our first home, 32 years ago. We lived in his house while we bought our first home in Swalwell. Sadly, Peter was an alcoholic and his illness eventually caught up with him. He passed away last month. The funeral is at 1.45pm on

Two key amendments to the EU (Withdrawal) Bill passed yesterday in the House of Lords. An amendment on the customs union supported by the Liberal Democrats, Crossbenchers, Labour, and Conservative peers passed by 348 votes to 225. Claire Young at the traffic lights on the A46 The good news is that the council is planning to re-open the Bromley Heath Viaduct over the weekend of 27th April. The bad news is that this coming weekend they will be removing the temporary traffic lights on the A46 near Tormarton, at the junction with the B4465 Westerleigh Road, which were installed to manage traffic diverted by the viaduct works.
