You can hardly blame my editorial colleague for publishing one of today's releases a bit earlier in the day than usual. After all, our unwritten constitution isn't often redrafted on the hoof, as it were, as Parliament hurtles towards a possible unintended 'no deal' Brexit. Is there anyone out there who can rally enough MPs behind them to at least apply the brakes?... Layla Moran had a PMQ today and she rocked it. She paid a generous tribute to Paddy Ashdown. When I watched it live, it seemed like people were saying "shame" to her. But there's another story to that. The main thrust of her question to Theresa May was about it becoming clearer that people wanted a People's Vote on Brexit while Putin wanted her to get on with Brexit and who's side was she on. Watch: Poll after poll has shown that the will of the people is now in favour of a People's Vote with the option to stay ...

Last year, Shropshire Council issued a call for landowners and developers to suggest sites for future residential and employment development. Several hundred sites were put forward. Most were rejected. In the Ludlow area, 64 sites were submitted. Enough land to build nearly 7.000 homes. Half the sites submitted were in Ludlow, or adjacent to Ludlow in Ludford and Bromfield. Just two of the 63 sites were approved for inclusion in the current local plan review. A further 20 sites were assessed as having long term potential for development. They could accommodate more than 3,100 homes. This article looks at those ...

Parliament 'takes back control' from a failing Govt Responding to the Conservative Government defeat on the business motion in the House of Commons, Liberal Democrat Brexit Spokesperson Tom Brake said: "Parliament has rejected the Prime Minister's vain attempt to once again kick the Brexit can down the road and run down the clock. It is right Parliament has 'taken back control' from a wayward Prime Minister and this failing Conservative Government. Liberal Democrats want to go much further and give the power back to the public with a people's vote and the option to remain in the EU. PM shamefully ...

News just in of the court case over the South Thanet election expenses from the 2015 general election: Conservative politician Craig Mackinlay has been cleared of falsifying election expenses. The MP for South Thanet had denied making false declarations during his 2015 campaign, when he beat then-UKIP leader Nigel Farage to the seat. His agent had also been previously cleared. However: Party activist Marion Little, 63, from Ware, Hertfordshire, who was tried alongside Mr Mackinlay, was found guilty of two counts of encouraging or assisting an offence. Marion Little was a senior staffer from Conservative HQ, central to the allegations ...

This morning I woke up at 5.30am. The instant I awoke my brain was bombarding me with all the reasons I am a terrible, worthless person who does not deserve to have anyone's time, attention, or care. At 7.30am, after two hours of constant berating by my own brain, I sent a message to someone who might reasonably have expected contact from me today that I would probably not be as responsive as usual because my depression was acting up, and that I was planning to throw myself into work to see if that would help at all. By 10am, ...

Pandering to the thugs

The uproar regarding Brexit Secretary, Stephen Barclay's* suggestion that intimidating protests outside parliament should rule out a fresh referendum was both predictable and justified. This is appeasement, worse it actually encourages the thugs that their intimidation is getting results. No wonder his fellow MPs are not amused. As the Independent reports, Labour MPs Chuka Umunna and Ben Bradshaw have branded the comment "disgraceful" and a willingness to "give in to fascist thugs" respectively. And senior Tories Justine Greening and Sarah Wollaston have accused Mr Barclay of being ready to bow down to "mob rule" and to "appease right-wing thuggery". All ...

A decade ago, Ludlow was one of the country's champions of food waste recycling. Caddies were collected weekly from the doorstep of homes and local businesses. This was processed in the biodigester on Coder Road creating gas and compost. This was an experimental project but it was cutting edge. So much so, I travelled from Oxfordshire just to view the facility. It is now closed. Now the government is saying that we must take food waste seriously. It says weekly food waste should be collected and biodigested. It doesn't want councils to continue composting in open bins as we do ...

Reuters has the article on its website see link below:- That Anna Soubry is called a fascist is bizarre especially as those who so label her are often of the far right themselves. I'm no Conservative but you have to respect Anna for standing up to the ridiculous people who are presently running the UK; I admire her as I do the small number of Labour MP's who are speaking out against their similarly ridiculous party leadership. Following the burst of new party members in reaction to Jeremy Corbyn's continued dalliance with Brexit, and then a former Conservative MEP joining the party, now we have an independent councillor in Somerset switching too. Cllr Mike Rigby has joined the Liberal Democrats, saying: I was elected as an Independent and have enjoyed the freedom that independence has provided, choosing which battles to fight. However, I have reached the position where some of the things I want to achieve for our community can best be delivered as a member of a major political group. Some time ago, the Liberal Democrats ...

Intolerant democracy

We seem to be living in an age of ever-increasing fanatics, people who believe that they are always right and are intolerant of other views. I am talking about the abusive treatment of Anna Soubry. This government is ridiculously split over Brexit, and the referendum which many thought (wrongly, in my opinion) would put an end to the debate over Europe has actually fanned the flames of a possible bitter split. Views have been further polarised by this incompetent government and their mismanagement of Brexit. In general, the printed press has supported the case to leave Europe and they continue ...
