Chloe Hutchinson is one of the brightest talents in our party. She heads up the South Wales West list for the Senedd elections this year. She gave a keynote speech to Welsh Conference yesterday about the difference Welsh Lib Dems can make in May. Let's hope Chloe is elected because she would be a powerful voice for liberty and equality. Now for a speech by one of our youngest candidates, our lead for South Wales West @chutchinson96 pic.twitter.com/uGH8KUtyZ2 — Welsh Liberal Democrats (@WelshLibDems) March 7, 2021 We have just 8 weeks left in what is one of the most important, ...

Today, Sainsbury's has given an update on the plans for the construction of the supermarket underway at Rocks Green. This confirms that the store, with an Argus drop in for hardware and toys, is expected to open before Christmas. The scheme will create around 150 jobs, many part-time and some replacing jobs lost in the town centre supermarkets which are expected to lose up to a quarter of their footfall. We'll keep you up to date as more information comes in. Sainsbury's supermarket - Rocks Green, Ludlow We're writing to you regarding the new Sainsbury's supermarket which is currently being ...

Second paragraph of third chapter ("Skin and Bones", by Tina Makereti):It was spring. He went about the place tilling and planting and from time to time felt an urge. He'd look down and see his own weighty erection and think What am I supposed to do with this? This was a thank-you-for-volunteering from CoNZealand, last year's Worldcon. It's an anthology of both newly commissioned work and pieces published in the last forty years or so, addressing the core strands of Māori mythology. I confess I felt somewhat thrown in at the deep end; it was only as I reached the end ...

Cllr Wendy Taylor offers us this story as a memorial to her late father, Brian. In his own words... In the General Election of 1945 I voted Labour and I did this not in England, but in Lebanon, where I was stationed at the time. It was not until late 1947 that I was finally demobilised, moving to Bromley in 1948. The next few years were devoted to building up my dental practice and at elections during that time I continued to vote Labour. My wife Susan voted Tory, so we cancelled each other out. In 1955 I began to ...

It sometimes seems as though the Party has been adjusting its internal conduct and discipline system since its foundation. And, of course, you have to have one because not everyone is reasonable, and people don't always behave reasonably towards each other in an organisation where the idea is to convince people of the rightness of your views, to win the argument, if you like. The problem is that, with any process, you have to supply the resources to make it work, and if the experiences of too many people are to be believed, that simply isn't the case currently. It ...

Today is International Women's Day. And if you are one of those people who find it necessary to ask if there's an International Men's Day, it's 19th November. So today, I'll be making the occasional intervention on Mark's day to report on what senior Liberal Democrats are saying about International Women's Day. Beatrice Wishart, Lib Dem MSP for Shetland got in early with her speech in the Holyrood International Women's Day event last Thursday. She highlighted the problems women were facing juggling work and caring responsibilities during the pandemic. She also spoke about the exodus of young women MSPs who ...

It has certainly been an eventful political weekend in South Wales, starting with the Labour leader of Neath Port Talbot stepping back so the Ombudsman can investigate a leaked tape of a talk he gave to a local Labour Party branch, in which he called a regional female Senedd member a 'cow' and suggested that public money is being used by his authority in a preferential way to gain party political advantage. Wales-on-Line pick up the story, reporting that Neath Port Talbot council's Rob Jones made the 'cow' comment about Plaid Cymru's Bethan Sayed at a meeting in 2019. But ...

Today is International Women's Day, so surely men should shut up. Absolutely not! To spare the event being tokenistic, putting women in the spotlight just for today, while men dominate the public sphere for the other 364 days in the year, men should stand up and be heard on International Women's Day as vocal champions [...]

For some reason, people often seem surprised that whilst I own a house and have a driving licence I choose not to have a car. I could afford to buy and run a car, but I choose not to, because I don't need one. The public transport network where I live isn't perfect and the walking and cycling infrastructure could do with some improvement, but it's more than enough for me to get around. Transport accounts for around a third of UK greenhouse gas emissions, with most of this coming from road transport. Therefore, given the government's commitments made at ...

Heavens, is it Monday already? Apparently so, and not just any Monday, but International Women's Day, so there'll be some content to reflect that, courtesy of our Editor-in-Chief. I should take this opportunity to point readers towards Parliament's celebrations of both International Women's Day and Women's History Month Although, somewhat curiously, both Houses will be marking it with debates on... Thursday. Otherwise, I'll be offering some thoughts on the Party's disciplinary processes – which reflect some comments I've received from others who will remain nameless but may recognise the points that I'm making. We'll also have a debut article from ...
