Britain has a skills crisis. For too long, successive governments have failed to invest enough in skills and training, assuming business will pick up the slack. Despite many excellent businesses investing extensively in their people this hasn't been enough. We need a new, liberal and fair approach to skills and training, which provides opportunities to everyone, which is why the Federal Policy Committee has commissioned a new working group to look at this issue. Progressive policies on skills and training give us the chance to position ourselves as the natural party of business, a position vacated by the Tories and ...

Where to start on the UK Government's scheme to send single male asylum seekers to Rwanda? Morally, it is repugnant, a further step towards the UK becoming a pariah state, shunning international principles in the treatment of refugees, practically, it is a whole different ball game. As the Independent reports, one Tory MP and former Minister is appalled at the new policy. Andrew Mitchell has branded Boris Johnson's multi-million pound deal, which could see thousands of people flown over 4,000 miles to the African country, as "immoral", and "impractical", and says it will involve "astronomic" costs. Following the announcement that the Medieval Fayre is no longer viable after the impact of the pandemic and Storm Arwen, the castle trustees have issued a statement. "Powis Estates, who proudly own and maintain Ludlow Castle, are incredibly disappointed that the Medieval Fayre will not be returning to the Castle this year. However in light of Storm Arwen's devastation, along with Covid-19, the decision is entirely understandable bearing in mind the huge financial losses and the risks involved in putting on future events. "The Castle is owned by Trustees. They remain committed to a five-year £1m rolling programme of maintenance ...

Responding to Boris Johnson's plan to send asylum seekers to Rwanda, after Refugee Minister Lord Harrington ruled out such a move just last week, Liberal Democrat Home Affairs Spokesperson Alistair Carmichael MP said: "The Prime Minister and Home Secretary announcing a refugees policy that the Refugees Minister doesn't even know about shows the total dysfunction at the heart of the Home Office. "If the Home Office can't even manage a press release properly, how on earth will they manage this new offshoring system?"
