One was a universally loved and admired figure: the other had been Pri... You can see where this is going.
Hallaton is only a village, but it once had markets and the status of a town. I suppose in the end it could not compete with the medieval economic behemoth that was Market Harborough. And it has a High Street (not a Main Street like most Leicestershire villages), which retains a distinctly urban feel. The sad thing is that today it does not have a single shop on it. Still, look on the bright side: Hallaton still has a castle, a recently discovered medieval chapel that was devoted to an obscure saint who had a cult here, was the scene ...
This has been our most successful week of by-elections for quite some time. There were only 3 contests this week – and 2 of them resulted in Liberal Democrat gains! Quite spectacular gains too. So let's celebrate some cracking results that will hopefully be just the start of a very successful month for us! First of all congratulations to Cllr Susan Grounds and the team on Neath Port Talbot Council who gained Ystalyfera and Cwmllynfell ward from Plaid Cymru. Not only did we not stand in this seat in the previous election in 2022 - this is our first principal ...

Would you like to serve on one of the party's Policy Working Groups? I have been on two groups in the past and they were a fascinating experience. We interviewed industry experts as well as policy specialists and had many challenging discussions as we put together the drafts of our eventual policy paper and motion to conference. Halfway through the process we consulted with members at federal conference. If that appeals to you, and you already have some knowledge of the policy areas concerned, here are four new opportunities: A Thriving Economy International Security Defending and Strengthening British Democracy Primary ...
I wrote a short post about Jamie Greene leaving the Tories and then went shopping. As soon as I did, he joined the Lib Dems and it was announced at the Scottish party's conference. So I have rewritten the post and given it a joyous new headline. Jamie Greene, the West Scotland region MSP who resigned from the Conservative group at Holyrood yesterday over its "Reform-lite agenda" and "Trumpesque narrative", has joined the Liberal Democrats. His move was announced at the Scottish Lib Dems' conference in Inverness this afternoon. The STV News report on Greene's resignation from the Tories says ...

So Donald Trump did exactly what he said he was going to do, and put tariffs on imports from all of America's biggest trading partners. At time of writing, Keir Starmer has acknowledged there will be an impact on the UK economy, but has yet to say how he intends to respond beyond promising to "keep a cool head". On top of the 25% tariffs on British steel and cars, there is now an additional 10% 'everything else' tariff, which interestingly is less than the 20% applied to EU exporters. While this may reflect the lower trade imbalance that the ...

We recently received complaints about potholes and road surface deterioration of the road surface in Clayhills Drive, particularly close to where the road goes past the electricity sub-station about two-third of the way up the road. Michael is pictured here and we raised this issue with the Roads Maintenance Partnership. We have since been advised that an Order had been raised to repair the road here.
TLDR: Boys need teaching how to be men, not lectured by the middle classes on how they are a danger to society. A quick recap to yesterday. 41% of teenagers have been taught young men are a problem in society and a quarter of parents report their boys are made to feel ashamed of being male at school.Where was I? Oh yes you'll be glad to know I didn't get too upset yesterday and I avoided showing too much emotion so there was no #maletears and I didn't get too angry about boys being let down so I wasn't toxic. ...
The Independent reports that new research ahead of the eighth anniversary of the introduction of the two-child benefit cap has found that an extra 30,000 children have been pulled into poverty by the controversial policy since Labour came to power. The paper says that last July ministers said they would consider ditching the "cruel" cap, in a bid to head off a backbench Labour revolt on the issue, but there has been no movement since, while official documents last week showed that separate moves to slash an extra £5 billion from the welfare bill are set to drive another 50,000 ...
