This was Ed Davey on BBC Breakfast this morning. His determination to attack Nigel Farage at every turn, and hang his admiration for Vladimir Putin around his neck in particular, is clear. Given that no one other party is prepared to have a go at Farage - the Conservatives agree with him, Labour is afraid its voters do - Ed is both performing a public service and exploiting a huge opportunity for the Liberal Democrats.

Sam Bright looks at new research that suggests effective attack lines to use against Reform UK: "Farage's shtick is to pose as a champion of the working man, fighting against out-of-touch elites and corrupt institutions. But this new research shows the importance of exposing Farage's foundational myth: namely, that Reform isn't a grassroots rebellion; it's a vehicle bankrolled by the financiers who crashed the economy in 2008 and the austerity-obsessed corporate vandals who have profited ever since." Like it or not, Britain's membership of the European Convention on Human Rights is going to be an issue at the next general ...
This afternoon, Ed Davey will give a major speech at the Institute for Public Policy Research in London. We're used to hearing from the right that our high energy prices are all to do with nasty net zero. Ed will tackle that nonsense As an alternative, he will set out a plan to dramatically slash bills for families and businesses still struggling through a cost-of-living crisis. He will call for "a Liberal Democrat energy policy in service of the British people, not a Nigel Farage energy policy in service of Vladimir Putin". He will set out a plan to break ...
Report highlights women's experience of "abuse, exclusion and bias" in political parties
There is quite a sisterhood in politics, a solidarity between women that transcends party. One of the major drivers of that is that we all have to put up with the same crap within our parties. Whether its under-representation, barriers to approval and selection as candidates, being talked over or dismissed in meetings or having our experiences of sexist behaviour minimised when we call them out, our experiences are strikingly similar. And if you are poor, from an ethnic minority or disabled, the barriers you face increase. Scottish organisation Engender has laid that all out in a new report which ...

The Guardian reports that personal information about more than 33,000 Afghans seeking relocation to the UK after the Taliban takeover was released in error by a defence official, with the Ministry of Defence trying for nearly two years to cover up the leak and its consequences. They add that fears that the individuals named would be at risk from reprisals from the Taliban led the previous government to set up a secret relocation scheme, the Afghan Response Route (ARR), involving 20,000 people at a cost in the order of £2bn. But the most astonishing thing about this whole story are ...
