I'll freely admit that I don't know much about Josh Babarinde, who launched his campaign for the Presidency of the Liberal Democrats yesterday. That isn't a criticism - I may be one of the painfully few members of the Party whose attention is mostly on the other end of the Palace of Westminster (for perhaps obvious reasons). But I do know about successful campaigns for the post, having played a small part in one of the most successful Presidential campaigns in the Party's history. And, regardless of what I think about Josh or his ability to do the job, I've ...

The Corbyn Party was launched last week. I say "Corbyn Party" because no one has actually given the new "party" a name. "It's Your Party" Corbyn told the media as he relived the old days of being a party leader. It could so easily accidentally be called the "You Party" or the "Ewe Party", hence the inclusion above of a photo of my sheep waiting to be sheared in May.The absence of a name and

Helen Maguire is backing a campaign to restore a derelict cemetery in her Epsom constituency. Horton Cemetery contains the graves of 9,000 people who died at one of the five mental health hospitals that made up the Epsom Cluster between 1899 and 1955. Today, it's neglected and not accessible to the public. Interviewed by the Lost Souls project, Helen Maguire said: "I would really welcome the opportunity to have a conversation with the landowner to see if we can find ways to return this graveyard to a public location so relatives can access it. "It's about heritage, education and people ...

Scottish Liberal Democrats have today announced homelessness and community campaigner Paul McGarry as their candidate for the Central Scotland and Lothians West regional list at the forthcoming Scottish election. Made homeless at the age of 16, Paul was driven into politics by a desire to tackle the root causes of homelessness and support some of the poorest communities in his area. For several years, he worked in youth projects across Scotland, including Lanark, Motherwell, East Kilbride, Falkirk and Hamilton. He now works a senior Business Development Manager at a national training provider, helping organisations across the UK improve health, safety ...

Theories, threats, counter-threats and conspiracies are flying thick and thin around the name of convicted paedophile and sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and the nature of his relationship with Donald Trump. Were the two men friends? If so, how friendly? Did Trump know that Epstein was a paedophile before his conviction? If so, how much did he know? Did he, himself have sexual relations with under-age girls? Is Donald Trump part of the deep state cabal of paedophiles who have been running the country according to QAnon and others? All questions now being hourly discussed within and without the MAGA world ...

To be honest, I'm inclined to believe the account of these events given in The Stilton Path, but as my rent falls due on Lady Day I shall keep schtum. At least it's pleasing to see the Well-Behaved Orphans are still passing samizdat copies of The Wooden Horse and The Colditz Story amongst themselves. Friday Have you come across a book called The Stilton Path? It purports to be the true story of a couple who walked all the way round Rutland Water because they had lost their money and one of them had the galloping lurgi, but I didn't ...

A strategic fortfication

You wouldn't think it to look at the building but Swansea Castle used to occupy a highly visible strategic position within the former Town walls. As the Cadw site says, although what remains of the fortification is now hemmed in by the city centre, its original location was on a clifftop above where the River Tawe used to flow, controlling a harbour and important east-west route along southern Wales. The river has since been diverted and its former route is now a road leading to a shopping mall amongst other destinations. Though there has been a castle there since at ...
