The Psychiatry SHO has been through the different parties' manifesto commitments on mental health and comes to this conclusion: It doesn't take a PhD in politics to work out that the Lib Dem manifesto is head and shoulders above the Conservatives and Labour in terms of engagement with the issue and promises made. They have ticked pretty much every one of the Mental Health Policy Group's boxes for suggested improvements. I have been horrified to find that Labour controlled Durham County Council has left empty a 5,250 square foot unit which it is leasing at a rental of £62,760 a year until 2019. The building was vacated by the Youth Offending Team in February 2014 and has since lain idle, with the meter still running for the unsuspecting council-tax payer. The simple fact is that if a concerned resident had not contacted me about this, neither I nor anyone else outside the council would have had any inkling of it.
