Second paragraph of third chapter:"What did you mean to do? Didn't I hear you refer to my children as fish?" She turned from him, ebony hair swirling, dusty, no-colored traveling robe lashing around slender ankles—ankles, deplorably, that were as dusty as the hair, as the soiled robe. The wearisome roads, wet or dry, were dirty. Even her hands and face were covered with a gray film. She looked at her wrists in fury. She could plant grass in the creases of her skin. A little sweat and they'd grow! Or tears! Tears would do it. She turned her face away. ...

Alex Cole-Hamilton has announced the spokespeople team he thinks will bring "new hope" to the party and to Scotland. One of the most striking things about Alex's team is that it is very young. I am positively ancient in comparison to all but about four others. It is fantastic that of the 18 spokespeople, 4 are in their 20s, and are members of the Young Liberals. They are Molly Nolan, who really closed the gap in Caithness, Sutherland and Ross in May. She is such a powerful advocate for our rural communities. Ben Lawrie, one of the youngest councillors in ...

The Independent reports that hopes Keir Starmer may have had of Labour's autumn conference passing without an intervention by his predecessor Jeremy Corbyn have been dashed, after it was announced that the former leader will speak at the alternative The World Transformed festival alongside the Brighton gathering: The annual conference is being billed as a chance for Starmer to relaunch his leadership and set out a clear picture of ...

And, most importantly, can we trust their pledge ...

Embed from Getty ImagesI was there in 1967 and I remember it. But as I was only seven years old, that is to be expected. We did, though, have a drug-influenced game at primary school. It involved sniffing a crumpled leaf from a bush growing on the generous playing fields and then running around being silly. It made a change from machine gunning Germans, which is what we generally did at play time. For me the Summer of Love meant a week's holiday on a caravan park at Winchelsea Beach in Sussex. I think this was a visit to Malcolm ...
