Jago Hazzard chooses Camden Road as his favourite London Overground station. You'll find it on the North London Line and apparently it's a good way of getting to Camden Market without running into huge crowds at the tube station. When I lived in Kew back in the early 1980s, I brought my bike down to St Pancras on the train from Market Harborough. From there cycled the mile or so north to Camden Road. so I could take it on a North London Line train from there to Kew Gardens. Anyway, you can support Jago's videos via his Patreon page. ...

OR If you are a careful driver, you'll probably be a considerate cyclist As a pedestrian, cyclist and driver I found the link below from the BBC website interesting:- www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-41346237 Cycling has really taken off in recent years due to the high cost of driving, a need for folk to be fitter and for environmental benefits too. Of course, this means that some who become cyclists have not ridden a bike since they were a child. In turn, this can make them think they can ride around like they did when they were a child i.e. at speed, on the ...

The Joy of Six 1067

"One of the most startling statistics in the report is that there are now eight million younger workers who have never experienced an economy that delivers a rising standard of living through wages alone." William Davies reviews Stagnation Nation, a new report from the Resolution Foundation. For the next six months, 3300 workers in the UK will work just four days a week. This experiment has captured media and public attention as a record 70 companies voluntarily made the promise of working less a reality for their workforce. Robert Magowan looks at the potential broader social impacts of the trial ...

Above the law?

The Guardian reports that a leaked document has revealed that Dominic Raab is planning to curb judges' powers in a move likely to make it harder to bring successful legal challenges against the government in England and Wales. The paper says that the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) paper suggests the justice secretary, who is also deputy prime minister, is considering changes that would have the effect of limiting ministers' accountability in judicial reviews brought by claimants concerned about the way decisions have been taken by public bodies: Despite the government having consulted on judicial review only last year and parliament ...

Just last Friday I was saying that while we were saying some good things about the cost of living emergency, we needed to come up with something bolder to deal with such a massive economic shock. I should have been more patient. Ed Davey has stepped up to the mark, calling for October's energy price rise to be cancelled, with part of the cost covered by a windfall tax on the energy companies. Given that some of them are making quarterly profits larger than the GDP of some countries, that is entirely justifiable. Under our plans, the 70% increase in ...

To Ed Davey and Liberal Democrats in Westminster There is a conspiracy of silence on the harm resulting from Brexit that Liberal Democrats need to break. The UK economy is lagging behind other European countries; inflation is increasing, growth is poor, customs costs are preventing small businesses from selling to the EU, hauliers and travellers ...
