The Joy of Six 1203

"Who's going to campaign for him in October? Who's going to stuff leaflets, who's going to give old ladies a lift to the polling station, who's going to stand in rainy high streets saying "vote Tory"? Not a single Conservative councillor, who will either have lost their seats five months previous or have scraped through by pretending not to have anything to do with That Lot In Westminster." Fleet Street Fox argues that Sunak has no choice but to go to the country in May. David Gilbert says a Russian disinformation campaign is deploying everything from high-ranking lawmakers and government ...

First, an apology. The photograph of Jim Dale's birthplace I posted just before Christmas was nothing of the sort, as I was misled by false information on what looked like an authoritative local history site. So, better briefed, I went back to Rothwell today to try again. Jim Dale was born (as Jim Smith) in a cottage in Fox Street that has since been demolished. It was one of a row that stood across the road from the entrance to the United Reform Church, so it would have stood where the houses are in the photo above. I was sorry ...

Tim Clement-Jones wants to know what action they are taking to reform the ...

My apologies for today's late start – a minor technical glitch locked me out of the site this morning but, now that that's remedied... A big election, far away... The world changes, even if nobody seems to want to tell us, as Indonesia goes to the polls this week. Two hundred million eligible voters will determine who will be the President of one of the world's fastest growing economies and an increasingly influential player in Asia-Pacific politics. And Indonesia isn't just a country with a large population, it stretches across thousands of miles, the equivalent of from the west of ...
