What will be the impact of the late surge in electoral registration? Mark Pack enlightens us. "We could plant a Marches National Forest stretching from Clee in the Shropshire Hills AONB down to Symonds Yat in the Wye Valley AONB. It could stretch from the Brecon Beacons National Park to the Malvern Hills AONB." Andy Boddington considers the options for doubling Shropshire's tree cover. LCC Municipal looks back at the battle to keep Epsom and Ewell out of Greater London. "In the process of targeting the young, cereal companies also realised that kids don't care about their colons. Responding to data released from an ONS report revealing that disabled employees are paid 12.2% less than their non-disabled peers, Liberal Democrat President Baroness Sal Brinton, said: "It is shameful that this pay gap exists in 2019. All employers must do more to ensure that they are inclusive. "The Conservatives have utterly failed to put equality at the heart of government and as such have failed to address this injustice. "Liberal Democrats are proud to have rolled out gender pay gap reporting in government, but we still have so far to go in the fight for equality. "That is why ...

[IMG: Image result for Swinson boxing image] Responding to Nigel Farage's comment at a Brexit Party rally today that "I don't want that Swinson girl anywhere near power, perfectly pleasant though she is", Leader of the Liberal Democrats Jo Swinson said:"Nigel Farage is going to discover that I am not always perfectly pleasant."Farage has stood for Parliament seven times and every single time, the voters have rejected his toxic brand of chauvinistic, far-right nationalism. He knows he is not going to get anywhere nearer to power this election and is so scared that he hasn't even bothered standing. He is ...

Second paragraph of third chapter: The youth stumbled a few paces as he walked backward, still trying to slow her down. He should have known better. She was the wife of a clan elder, and in his absence—temporary absence—she wielded his authority outside the keep. I picked this up at Novacon in 2013, I think as a freebie. It's the second volume in a series of novels based on a game I haven't played, and while I admired the author's efforts to make a human/alien dynamic that worked, most of it sailed over my head. You can get it here. ...

It is clear that there are two possible broad outcomes to this General Election. The first is an overall Conservative victory. The second is no party with an overall majority, what the world will call a Hung Parliament. There's a subset of them both which is a repeat of 2017 where the Tories as largest party can get to an overall lead with the assistance of the DUP. The Irish borders issue (the main single reason we are now having an election yet almost completely absent from the election debate) may make that more difficult for Johnson though we must ...

Unless a miracle occurs and the Tories do not end up with a majority after the general election, there are two main ways that Brexit goes from there. Given this is the future of the country, it is astonishing how little this is being discussed. Except when you remember that neither of the two largest parties want to talk about it, then it starts to make more sense. The Withdrawal Agreement Bill will be passed as quickly as possible and then we will be "out" of the EU. I put the "out" in quotations because although we will cease to ...

In their latest move to cut Britain off from mainland Europe the Conservatives are proposing introducing electronic visas for EU and Commonwealth citizens making short-term visits to the UK. If that goes ahead, the EU would doubtless feel obliged to reciprocate by imposing visas for British citizens wishing to visit the Continent. This is ending [...]

The Guardian reports that Brexit is contributing to a serious brain drain in UK universities, after it emerged that almost 11,000 EU academics had left since the 2016 referendum. They say that these figures are based on freedom of information responses from universities, and show 10,918 left in the three years starting with the 2016-17 financial year. In 2018-19, 4,014 quit, 31% more than in 2015-16, and 40% more than in 2014-15. However, the figures are almost certain to be underestimates of the real total, because the study is based on 81 universities that responded to the requests. Universities UK, ...

Responding to Johnson's proposals to introduce an American-style visa waiver scheme after Brexit, Liberal Democrat Shadow Brexit Secretary Tom Brake said:"Johnson's lies to the public continue at pace. Far from making us safer, Brexit will mean the loss of access to vital databases that we use to track criminals who attempt to enter the UK and to extradite serious offenders."These plans will mean more bureaucracy, more red tape and - because the EU will implement a mirrored system for the British public - fees for anyone travelling to the EU for their holiday. "The Liberal Democrats will stop Brexit and ...

A post by Councillor Tracey Huffer, Shropshire Councillor for Ludlow East. In 2014, Philip Dunne gave an awkward lecture to young people at Ludlow Youth Centre. He attempted to explain why he was backing Shropshire Council's move to convert half of Ludlow Youth Centre into offices. It was a rare intervention by Dunne in Shropshire Council's politics. It was disastrous for Ludlow's young people. Since then, we have struggled. We no longer have the space and privacy in the Youth Centre we need for projects like Ludlow Young Health. Our budgets have been cut. From next April, we will be ...
