Second paragraph of third chapter:"Pangyui writes that, in some ancient texts, miracles were described not as rules or devices but as organisms, as if Saint So-and-So's Magic Feet or whatever they called it was just a fish in a vast sea of them. As if some miracles had minds of their own."Third in a trilogy which was up for the Hugo for Best Series in 2018. I enjoyed the first, enjoyed the second and enjoyed this one too. Thirteen years on from the previous volume, a major character gets killed off in the first chapter and then her friend spends ...

With the need for progress at COP26 in mind, Ed Davey has been telling Times Radio how to ensure that China plays a productive role: "We can get vulnerable countries to speak out (during Cop26) that embarrasses China, and that has a bigger impact." Ed Davey, leader of the Liberal Democrats, says the UK "has got to be tough with China."@MattChorley | @EdwardJDavey pic.twitter.com/EQ6vm96t8J — Times Radio (@TimesRadio) November 2, 2021

11 billion

11 billion - that's the number of wet wipes used and thrown away in the UK in the past year, according to BBC News. They are one of the main causes of blocked sewers. 90% of wet wipes contain plastic. In other words, they are single-use plastic products and we use an unbelievable number of them. But do we really need to use them in our homes? I'm old enough to remember using a wet rag. Literally,

When it comes to major global climate change talks, Lib Dem leader Ed Davey has way more experience than Boris Johnson. As Climate Change Secretary, he knows how to bring people across the world together and make progress. He has written in the Standard about the challenges facing those who want to reach a binding agreement to limit carbon emissions and therefore temperature rises. China is key. Unless they come on board, it will be very difficult to make the necessary changes. Ed says how he did it the last time: Having led the UK's negotiations at three previous COPs, ...

I linked to this article on Open Democracy by Peter Geoghegan a few days ago, but on re-reading it decided that it deserves a more substantive boost. He says that a classic example of this appeared in The Telegraph this week: the day before ...

Embed from Getty ImagesWhat with being a carer and one thing and another, I am finding it harder to be all over the day's news. So only today am I blogging about the Independent Inquiry Into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) report on institutional responses to allegations of abuse against Greville Janner. In his report on its publication, which appeared under a headline referring to "cheapskate botched and useless investigations", David Hencke wrote: The national press and the BBC have rightly highlighted the failures of the police and the council to adequately investigate claims by survivors yet again in cases of ...
